OpenOffice.org Renaissance Project

Renaissance Project has the objective of revamping OpenOffice.org user interface in order to make it more attractive for the ordinary user, who is accustomed to the bells and whistles of Microsoft and Apple operating systems and prioritizes look and feel over features. I prefer a different approach, but the majority is always right and therefore it’s time to make OOo as sexy as other applications.
Renaissance Project has started a few months ago, and is well on track according to his tight schedule. The first phase has been completed, as you can see from the presentation available on the OpenOffice.org Wiki.
I would not agree with the wording you use in this post. Project Renaissance is a lot more than pure “Design”. Here is the project goal statement:
“… to know and to understand our users as they are, and to help them accomplish what they want to, by providing efficient access to valuable functionality through a desirable User Interface. ”
Hence, the focus of the project is on the USERS of OOo and on the things they try to accomplish with it. Things should become more efficient and fun to use. That’s besically it what we aim at.
One more thing. The first project phase is not over yet. The presentation you link gives a short overview of the current status, what has been done so far and what is to come.
So, thanks for watching and stay tuned!
